National oil and natural gas production remained stable in May, says ANP.

In May, Brazil produced 5.597 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) of oil and natural gas. Total pre-salt production (oil + natural gas) in May was 4.503 million boe/d, corresponding to 80.5% of Brazilian production. Production decreased by 2.4% compared to the previous month and increased by 18.4% compared to the same month in 2025. 3.471 million bbl/d of oil and 164.08 million m³/d of natural gas were produced through 189 wells.

Utilization of natural gas

In May, natural gas utilization was 97.2%. 60.83 million m³/d were made available to the market, with 5.87 million m³/d flaring. There was a 30% increase in flaring compared to the previous month – due to the commissioning of the FPSO P-79 in the Búzios Field – and a 37% reduction compared to May 2025.

Origin of production

During the month, offshore fields produced 98.1% of the oil and 88.9% of the natural gas. Fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, accounted for 87.78% of the total produced. Production originated from 6,373 wells, 602 of which were offshore and 5,771 onshore.

Fields and facilities

In May, the Búzios field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, was the largest oil producer, registering 893,370 bbl/d of oil. The Mero field, also in the Santos Basin, was the largest natural gas producer, with 47.20 million m³/d. The installations with the highest production were the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in the Búzios field, for oil (247,647 bbl/d); and the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, in the Mero field, for gas (13.08 million m³/d).
