In a statement released to the professional press this Tuesday (23), Copersucar notes that it sees the opportunities for decarbonization in the maritime sector as one of the main avenues for growth for ethanol. According to the company, ethanol stands out for bringing together competitive attributes in availability, cost and carbon intensity, positioning itself as a relevant alternative for the decarbonization of shipping. In the note, Copersucar notes that the market presents promising prospects for expansion, driven by the possibility of direct use of the fuel in engines already adapted to the use of methanol, reducing barriers to its large-scale adoption. “We have an important differential in access to the ethanol molecule due to our significant presence in Brazil, with Evolua, and in the United States, with Eco-Energy, in addition to an integrated logistics platform and a trading DNA to enable ethanol to be available for use in the main corridors or strategic points of maritime supply in the world,” says the president of Copersucar, Tomás Manzano. Copersucar ended the 2025/26 harvest with a consolidated net profit of R$ 631 million (a 56.9% increase compared to the previous year). Sugarcane milling reached 108 million tons, a 0.9% increase compared to the previous season. 17 million tons of sugar and 21 billion liters of ethanol were sold. The associated mills also generated 6.5 thousand GWh of renewable electricity from sugarcane biomass.
