CNPE Postpones Meeting on E32 Ethanol Blending Increase with No New Date Set  

● Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has informed that the CNPE meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (June 24) has been postponed for scheduling reasons, with no new date yet defined.

● The agenda included the approval of the increase in the anhydrous ethanol blending mandate in gasoline to 32% — a measure widely anticipated by the market that, once implemented, would raise demand for anhydrous ethanol by approximately 930 million liters per year.

Hydrous ethanol consumption remains near 1.8 bi liters for the third consecutive month  

 
   
● Hydrous ethanol consumption in Brazil reached 1.801 billion liters in May (+1.3% YoY), totaling 8.610 billion liters since January (-3.6% YoY).

● Despite its improved competitiveness against gasoline at the pump, hydrous ethanol consumption has remained virtually unchanged for three consecutive months.

● Regular Gasoline (E30) consumption increased to 3.854 billion liters in May (+1.1% YoY), reaching 19.651 billion liters since January (+3.9% YoY).

● As a result, total Otto-cycle fuel consumption reached 5.115 billion liters in May (+1.2% YoY), on a gasoline-equivalent basis, totaling 25.678 billion liters since January (+3.4% YoY).

● In this context, ethanol (hydrous + anhydrous) accounted for 47.3% of Brazil’s Otto-cycle fuel market in May, the highest monthly share since April 2021.

● According to DATAGRO estimates, the share of flex-fuel vehicles fueled with hydrous ethanol reached 28.6% in May 2026, unchanged compared to the same period last year.

● Meanwhile, Diesel B (B15) consumption reached 5.668 billion liters in May (-3.2% YoY), totaling 28.154 billion liters since January (+1.7% YoY).
