Hydrous Ethanol Competitiveness Against Gasoline Falls Below 60% in São Paulo
● According to ANP, in the week ending June 12, the average retail price of hydrous ethanol declined in 22 of Brazil’s 27 states.
● Nationwide, the biofuel was sold at an average of R$ 4.15/liter, down 0.72% from the previous week.
● In São Paulo, the average retail price of hydrous ethanol fell for the ninth consecutive week, reaching R$ 3.86/liter (-0.52%), while gasoline prices remained stable at R$ 6.46/liter.
● As a result, the ethanol-to-gasoline price ratio in São Paulo declined to 59.75%, the lowest level since February 2024.
● Hydrous ethanol remained competitive relative to gasoline in Mato Grosso (57.69%), Mato Grosso do Sul (63.21%), Minas Gerais (66.45%), Goiás (65.49%), Paraná (63.95%), Bahia (69.25%), and the Federal District (63.23%).
● Together, these markets account for 60.5% of Brazil’s Otto-cycle fuel consumption, up from 49.6% in the same period last year.
