Heat Wave Reduces Sugar Beet Yield Projections in the European Union

● The recurring heat waves in the European Union between late June and the first half of July are expected to reduce the agricultural yield potential of sugar beet crops in the region.

● The European Commission cut its sugar beet yield forecast for the 26/27 crop from 77.7 t/ha to 76.0 t/ha — a level 6.9% below 25/26, though still in line with the 5-year average (76.2 t/ha).

● In France, sugar beet agricultural yield is expected to fall 9.1% to 81.7 t/ha, a level 1.2% below the 5-year average.

● Against this backdrop, and also considering the reduction in planted area, it is reasonable to assume that sugar production in the European Union will not exceed 14.1 mmt in 26/27, compared to 16.6 mmt produced in 25/26.

CS Brazil Records Cane Harvesting Stoppages Following Cold Front Passage

● A cold front moved across Brazil’s Center-South region last weekend, bringing rainfall to much of the sugarcane-growing areas.

● The heaviest rainfall occurred in the state of Paraná and in the microregions of Bauru, Presidente Prudente, and Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo, with accumulated totals of between 50 and 100 mm recorded between July 23 and 25.

● Harvesting stoppages were observed across multiple fronts, with Paraná and the microregions of Bauru and Ribeirão Preto being the most impacted, recording 2 to 4 lost crushing days due to rainfall.

● On a regional average, 1.3 days were lost. The 10-year average for the period is just 0.1 day lost.

● Weather forecasts indicate new rainfall episodes between July 30 and 31, more concentrated in Mato Grosso do Sul, eastern São Paulo, and northeastern Paraná, though at less intense volumes.
