Brazilian Sugar Exports Fall 12% in May
● Brazil exported 1.966 mmt of sugar in May, down 11.9% YoY,
● The top three destinations were Bangladesh (267k mt; 13.6%), Nigeria (210k mt; 9.0%), and Algeria (201k mt; 10.2%).
● On a cumulative basis since January, sugar exports totaled 9.168 mmt, 3.4% lower than the same period last year. Of that total, 905k mt (9.9%) was shipped to India, followed by Algeria (822k mt; 9.0%).
● As for ethanol, Brazil exported only 17 million liters in May, a decline of 79.4% compared to a year ago. Since January, ethanol exports reached 281 million liters (-54.3% YoY), of which 90 million liters — representing 32.1% of the total — went to the Netherlands.
